Marozzo buckler Shield
A historically inspired buckler based on original Italian targa shields used in Renaissance fencing schools, known for example from the works of Achille Marozzo.
This shield was designed for modern HEMA sparring and tournament use while preserving the character, proportions, and handling principles of historical originals.
Unlike classic round bucklers, the targa shape offers improved deflection of cuts and thrusts away from the body’s centerline and allows for very active work in close contact. Thanks to its pronounced shaping, the shield is rigid, lightweight, and easy to control even during intense sparring.
Great emphasis was placed on grip ergonomics.
The handle features a thumb support that significantly improves stability and control during use. The construction is designed to remain comfortable both with a bare hand and while wearing modern HEMA gloves.
The Marozzo buckler is suitable for both right-handed and left-handed users.
