Hey, how large is the space between the handle and the shield? The only pair of gloves I have are Gabriels, but I've heard that a few of the medium to large gloves don't really fit, so I want to double check before buying this.

Do these have a impact rating? Like 350 newton's or higher?

Hello Michael,
The Hungarian shield has no certification.
However it is made of solid 5mm thick plastic, and it can stand cut and stab with sharp blade. So, a standard sparring blade has literally no chance…
Thank you.
Vladimir

I'm happy with what I bought. I’ll be wearing gloves next time, though. It was pretty common for the shields themselves to occasionally bash against my fingers, but that’s a better outcome than getting struck by incoming strikes. The coverage and visibility were better than I expected.
Likewise, the rounded end of the shields allowed the shields to not get accidentally stuck out-of-position at the crook of my elbows; the shields never got caught in the folds of my coat at an inopportune moment. I got the impression that folks put a lot of time into getting the shape juuuuust right. The shape of the spikes at the other end were neither too short nor too long. My only complaint was that the cosmetic black plastic caps over the tips of some of the screws were very flimsy.

Which primers would best be used to prepare the surface of the shield for painting? Cordially, Bill

Hi, it's mentioned in a discussion but I don't see it expressly stated on the product - is this rated for surviving extended use in heavy HEMA combat? Will it survive direct hits from steel longswords and the like?

Hello,
yes, the shield can be used in heavy HEMA combat with steel weapons.
Best regards,
Vladimir
