Technology

During the making of armour, I gain my knowledge in a large collection of armour literature or by visiting museums or depositories where it is possible to study the specimens in technical details. I use all these findings in practice. Armour replicas made by me have a identical construction to the original, maintaining maximum movability during fencing in both full armour or in its individual parts.

Our ancestors created armor for their survival, so it had to be functional. That is why I stand by the rule that if something has once been invented, it is unnecessary to discover it again. That is why my armour constructions processes are identical to original armour. Of course there are deliberate exceptions when the costumer has personal specific needs for their fencing or stunt criteria‘s.

If you are not definitely sure about the correct positioning in thissocial field and the correct weapon combination, I would be happy to help you solve this problem.

Material

For the making of armour and its components I use either mild steel or spring steel. All work is done strictly by hand without the use of presses and power hammers.

Mild steel is not only ideal for decorative and standing armour, but also very practical during historical fencing, tournaments and battles. Caution must be taken when choosing the adequate thickness of the material for individual parts of the armour. The thinnest recommended thickness of the mild steel is 1,3 mm. Thickness of individual parts are consulted with each client.

Production process can be done either cold or hot, depending on the difficulty of each component and the final surface finishing. The production methods do not affect the material durability so its not necessary to prefer one method over another. Spring steel is mainly worked hot to prevent the material from cracking during the work process. The thickness of the material i use for this type of armour is 1,5mm to 1,0mm. The combination of the thickness can also be discussed with the customer. The advantage of using spring steel is it‘s durability. Due to this, thinner material can be used for a large wariety of individual components. This leads to the weight reduction of the armour enough to be just like the original. Due to the higher specialization and difficulty, there is large difference between the price for armour from spring steel and mild steel.

Surface finishing

The surface finishing is done at the wishes of the customer either by polishing, brushing, blackening or even blueing and patinating. The inside is painted with anti-coorosion paint. This saves time on maintenance of the inner side. This dose not have to be done to the product if the customer wishes otherwise.
